Product: Bitter Aperitif, Campari
Campari is a red herbal liqueur with a bittersweet taste. It has been produced in Milan (Italy) since 1862, where it was first served in the Cafe Camparino. The exact recipe is a family secret. 86 different roots, herbs, spices and fruits are used, according to the manufacturing company Campari Group. Campari is still produced according to the original recipe today.
The ingredients are soaked in distilled water and ethyl alcohol is added. The natural colouring cochineal (E 120) provides the color. After a few days, the mixture is filtered several times to remove any clouding agents and poured into large, internally glazed containers and brought to drinking strength with water and sugar syrup (alcohol content 25%). After 30 days of resting, the drink is filtered again and bottled.
Campari is an aperitif that stimulates the appetite. It can also be used in long drinks or cocktails. The classics include Campari soda, Campari orange and Campari tonic, but the Americano and French Kiss are also very popular.
In Italy, Campari soda is also sold ready-mixed in small, cone-shaped bottles.
