Additive: Quinine
The bitter-tasting quinine is added in small quantities to drinks such as bitter lemon or tonic water. Bitter lemon drinks originated in Africa, where quinine was added to drinks to prevent malaria. In general, it is a popular bittering agent in the food industry and can therefore also be found in bitters, for example.
