The history of the Daiquiri
The Daiquiri is a classic Cuban cocktail with roots dating back to the late 19th century. The cocktail was named after a small village near Santiago de Cuba where it is said to have been invented.
The story says that the Daiquiri was created by American engineers who were working near the Daiquiri village and were in search of a way to cool down and refresh. They are said to have mixed rum, limes, and sugar to create the cocktail.
The Daiquiri quickly became a popular drink in Cuba and became a favorite among American tourists in the 1920s. In the 1930s, the cocktail became increasingly popular in the USA and gained fame through celebrities such as Ernest Hemingway, who often mentioned it in his novels and stories. Today, the Daiquiri is widely known and one of the most popular cocktails in the world.
