Sanbittèr is a non-alcoholic bitter drink used to prepare cocktails, characterized by its red color and taste of citrus and herbs. Sanbittèr consists of carbonated water, sugar, flavors, citric acid, colorant true carmine (E120).
The drink was created by San Pellegrino in 1961 under the name "Bitter Sanpellegrino" and renamed "Sanbittèr" in 1985. Today, Sanbittèr belongs to the "Lemonades and Bitter Drinks" product group of Sanpellegrino, which is part of the Nestlé Group. In addition to the classic redSanbittèr Rosso, there is SanbittèrDry without colorants (since 1980) andSanbittèr Gold(yellow). For the 50th anniversary, several mixed drinks were created in 2011 under the nameSanbittèr Emozioni di Frutta(grapefruit, cinnamon, peperoncino, passion fruit).
Sanbittèr is used for mixing cocktails as a non-alcoholic substitute for bitter liqueurs such as Camparisoda. Among the most famous cocktails with Sanbittèr isBitterman's Friend, developed at Schumann's in 2008.
