Ingredient: Blackberry
The fruits are juicy and tasty. Blackberry fruits are suitable for fresh consumption, as a topping for cakes and to prepare jam, jelly, sorbet, juice, wine and liqueur. The fresh fruits can also be preserved by freezing. They are therefore also very popular for mixed drinks and can be found in various drinks.
The fruits, which are usually blue-black when ripe, are not berries botanically speaking, but aggregate drupes formed from the individual carpels: each of their small individual berries is similar in structure to a drupe (for example, cherry) and has a thin outer skin like the latter. In fact, when chewing the fruit, one bites on small stones in which the seed of the blackberry can also be found. Unlike the raspberry, the fruit is firmly attached to the flower base.
